I decided to travel up to the Pigeon River State Forest area and float a bit on my pack raft. I set my sights on Round Lake and enjoyed some solitude and sun.
I enjoyed the quiet sounds of wind on the water and birds busily preparing for summer and attracting mates. Ringing the small lakes there were very few features but the quiet was the main feature I was seeking out! I spied an empty nest on my way back to take out, and with so much light left in the day decided to visit Pickerel Lake, also in the Pigeon, and one of several named this in the state!
Greeted by a couple of Canada Geese who honked at me while I prepped my packraft for launch. I headed north and around into a lagoon which was very quiet but also contained several floating beer and soda cans. I retrieved them and continued along the lakeshore but when the wind is died down I decided to kick back and relax a bit with my feet out.
I enjoyed the rest of my float and as the sun began to set I headed back scaring up a large painted turtle who had been peering out of the water at me. I was happy to be able observer the following wildlife: 2 deer, 4 redwing blackbirds, 1 large fish, 1 turtle, 2 Canada goose (I think they qualify…).
